KARACHI: More than 193 people were arrested in Karachi as the traffic police began taking action against people traveling on the wrong side of the road.
The action was taken as part of the crackdown ordered by Sindh Inspector General of Police Dr Syed Kaleem Imam to arrest and seize vehicles of those who are found to be traveling in the wrong way.
Another 4,765 commuters were issued challans as police treated elderly violators and those with families leniently. According to a traffic police spokesperson, over Rs 1146,665 was fined in total during the 1st day’s action.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Sindh Dr Kaleem Imam asked the citizens to follow traffic rules and avoid using the wrong way and violating one-way direction during driving in the city metropolis.
The IGP asked the citizens to follow the traffic rules in order to save loved-ones and others commuting on city roads from traffic accidents.
His appeal came in the backdrop of a campaign launched from the Sindh police against the drivers violating one-way and wrong way rules.
