KANDAHAR: At least 10 Afghan soldiers were killed and four others injured during a Taliban attack on a military base in the southern province of Helmand on Saturday.
According to a spokesman for 215 Maiwand Army Corps in southern Afghanistan, Nawab Zadran, and The Taliban dug a burrow into the base in explosive Sangin district and then blew it up prior to their troop could attack the compound.
He said at the moment 18 personnel were in the base camp to secure the locals of Sangin area, while four soldiers were injured and four fought with Taliban attack valiantly, he added.
Meanwhile, the provincial spokesperson Omar Zawak told the attack and said the soldiers were killed by the powerful blast in the camp. On the other hand, a Taliban presenter Zabihullah Mujahid in a statement sent to the media claimed responsibility for the attack in the camp.
Earlier, on Tuesday seven Afghan soldiers were killed in a Taliban attack on a base in the northern province of Balkh.
Winter once marked a hold back in the purported combating period, with Taliban fighters recurring to their local areas. In recent years, the distinction between seasons has all but gone astray.
