WASHINGTON: The State Department confirmed that the US has signed a resumption of Pakistan’s participation in the International Military Education and Training Program (IMET).
The decision to resume the participation came after the move relations which were recently built between Prime Minister Imran Khan and US President Donald Trump.
In August 2018, Pakistan faced suspension from the program as Trump’s administration quietly started cutting scores of Pakistani officers from coveted training and educational programs that have been a hallmark of bilateral military relations for more than a decade.

In that year, Pakistan was also removed from programs at the US Naval War College, Naval Staff College, and courses including cybersecurity studies.
The International Military Education and Training (IMET) program is an instrument of U.S. national security and foreign policy and a key component of U.S. security assistance that provides training and education on a grant basis to students from allied and friendly nations.
