After the Sharif brothers left the country, the top leadership of PML-N flocked to London to hold a meeting to discuss future political strategy. Rumor has it, the party is now seeking in-house change in parliament and snap elections.
These demands though democratic seem rather unrealistic based on the political scenario in the country. It is surreal plotting to dislodge the government while sitting at an upscale restaurant in London. These changes need to be made back home and that will require presence of the Sharif brothers in Pakistan. However, the PMLN President is expected to stay in the British capital as he faces a barrage of corruption cases against him.
After the PML-N huddle, the party leaders met with party supremo Nawaz Sharif at the Avenfield House- the infamous property symbolic of his corruption and cause of his downfall. Nawaz Sharif is expected to visit the United States later this month for further medical treatment and is unlikely to return back to Pakistan any time soon. The PTI has termed the PML-N huddle in London as a gathering on fugitives, and an attempt to protect their corruption.
Back home Maryam Nawaz has approached the LHC to strike her name from the no-fly list so she can travel abroad as well. Her excuse is that she needs to tend to her ailing father who is in a critical condition and depends on her assistance. The court has given the government a week’s time to decide on the matter. The cat is out of the bag as Maryam may be the next member of the Sharif family to move abroad and depart from politics for a long time.
Maryam Nawaz’s silence has raised several questions while Shehbaz Sharif cannot regain full control of the party if she is around. Prime Minister Imran Khan will once again have to face the brunt of the aftermath in case Maryam is also allowed to go abroad or stays back and becomes a formidable political force.
