WASHINGTON: United States President Donald Trump has issued a legal notice to CNN that claimed the cable news outlet has violated the Lanham Act.
An attorney for President Donald Trump has sent the letter to CNN, an American news channel that threatened to sue the news network for violating the Lanham Act and making lies to the public and advertisers about its content.
The Lanham Act prohibits a number of activities, including false advertising. It means a fraudulent or misleading statement of fact is restrained.
The notice from Trump attorney Charles Harder stated, “Your own employees appear to state that CNN is focused on trying to take down US President.”
The notice added, “In the Footage, your employees appear to state that CNN attempts to make its reporting appear neutral and unbiased, when in fact its reporting is far from neutral and highly biased against the President.”
It stated, “We also expect substantial additional information about CNN’s wrongful practices to become known in the coming days and weeks.”
It further added, “Never in the history of this country has a President been the subject of such a sustained barrage of unfair, baseless, unethical and unlawful attacks by so-called mainstream news, as the current situation.”

According to Harder, CNN has violated the Lanham Act for making misstatements to the public and advertisers.
The letter adds, “Accordingly, my clients intend to file legal action against you, to seek compensatory damages, treble damages, punitive damages, injunctive relief, reimbursement of legal costs, and all other available legal and equitable remedies, to the maximum extent permitted by law.”
On the other hand, CNN stated that the notice issued by Trump’s administrative was not worth discussing.
CNN in a statement said, “This is nothing more than a desperate PR stunt and doesn’t merit a response.”
