The Sindh Education Department has revoked the recent promotions of primary school teachers who had been elevated to high school teaching positions.
According to an official notification, the decision comes in response to a case currently under consideration by the Sindh High Court, and based on directives issued by the School Education and Literacy Department.
As per the order, teachers who had been promoted must now return to their original primary school positions. Moreover, the department has instructed that any salaries and benefits received during their time in the higher-grade posts be recovered. District Education Officers (DEOs) across Karachi Division have been formally directed to ensure full compliance with the order.
These promotions had only taken place a few months ago.
Earlier in July, the Sindh Education Department completed Pakistan’s largest-ever teacher recruitment drive, hiring over 93,000 educators across the province. Education Minister Sardar Shah confirmed that 93,118 offer letters were issued, including 65,147 for Primary School Teachers (PSTs) and 27,701 for Junior Elementary School Teachers (JESTs).
The recruitment drive emphasized merit-based selection through third-party testing and included 31,075 women, 1,330 differently abled individuals, and 2,100 candidates from minority communities, supporting the province’s broader inclusion and empowerment goals.
