Last month, the banned outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) announced the end of their ceasefire with Pakistan and threatened commencing theirs attacks in the country once again. After this announcement many incidents of terrorism have taken place in different parts of the country, particularly in the two provinces, i.e., Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) and Baluchistan.
On Sunday, the TTP detained militants inside a Bannu CTD center took over its compound, held interrogators hostage and demanded safe evacuation to Afghanistan, while in a separate terrorist attack four policemen were martyred in Lakki Marwat. On Monday two person were killed and four injured in a suicide attack in North Waziristan. This was the second suicide attack in Waziristan since the TPP has announced ending of ceasefire. After the TTP announcement terrorism attacks have become order of the day both in KPK and Baluchistan.
Last day, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah confessed that some 300 terrorist incidents had occurred in KPK in a year, which was alarming. He blamed the PTI provincial government for poor law and order situation. He claimed that the Federal Government had offered to help build the capacity of KP police and CTD, but received no response from the provincial government till-date.
It is a bitter truth that TTP terrorists are enjoying full support from cross border’s elements. Though the Taliban government in Kabul has announced time and again that no one would be allowed to use Afghanistan’s soil against Pakistan or any other country, but the ground reality is totally different and it seems that behind the scene Afghan Taliban are fully supporting TTP and their activities in Pakistan.
Unfortunately, some people and some political parties in Pakistan still have a soft corner for both TTP and Afghan Taliban. The party, ruling in KPK, is also among them. In the past it had offered the TTP terrorists to open their office in Peshawar.
Enough is enough, after the Bannu incident, both the provincial and federal governments should open their eyes, and should not only take stern action against TTP but also rise this issue with its supporters in Kabul as Pakistani public and security agencies cannot afford another wave of terrorism in the country.
