NEW DELHI: A delivery boy, working for a famous pizza chain, in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar has tested positive for the novel coronavirus after showing symptoms for around 20 days.
According to South Delhi District Magistrate BM Mishra, the 72 families residing in the locality – which he had visited in the past 20 days – have been told to observe self-quarantine.
Apart from the families, the authorities also decided to quarantine his 16 colleagues at the outlet. The restaurant where the rider worked has suspended all operations.
The District Magistrate also said that there was no need to panic, as he had informed all the delivery boys to use masks and follow the safety measures while executing a delivery.
“However, the decision to send all contact persons to quarantine was ‘necessary’ as a precautionary measure,” he said.
BM Mishra said, “The delivery boy was now undergoing treatment at a private hospital, while others who came in his contact are being monitored on a daily basis.”
Authorities also pointed out that some of the orders from this outlet were also made through food delivery giant Zomato. As a precautionary measure, the restaurant suspended operations.
In this regard, Zomato said, “All the co-workers of the said rider have tested negative and as a precaution, the restaurant where the rider worked has suspended operations.”
According to the Indian health ministry, Delhi has the second-highest number of coronavirus cases in India after Maharashtra. So far, almost 1,500 people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Delhi.
