KARACHI: A local court in Malir rejected police demand of extension in physical remand of Ali Zaidi, President Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh chapter, and decided to send him to jail on judicial remand.

Zaidi was remanded in police custody for three days by Malir  Court on Monday in a case filed a decade ago pertaining to “fraud”.

A first information report (FIR) was registered at Ibrahim Hyderi police station on the complaint of a property dealer, Fazal Ilahi, against Zaidi and two unidentified persons. It alleged that the PTI leader had given him a “fake” property file in partial repayment of a loan.

The party’s provincial media department claimed Zaidi was arrested from the PTI Secretariat without a warrant.

On Thursday, Zaidi was presented in a Malir court amid strict security with policemen barring media personnel from covering the event.

During the hearing, the court rejected police request of seeking more physical remand of Ali Zaidi, and ordered to send him to jail on judicial remand. The Court also ordered Investigation Officer to submit copy of Challan on next date of hearing.

PTI leader Aftab Siddiqi said a bail plea had been filed for Ali Zaidi, and the hearing was expected later today.
