KARACHI: The Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan today (Thursday) has warned that the authority will suspend the licence of pilots found smoking while operating flights.
The Aviation Authority has issued a notification barring cockpit crew that includes pilots and first officers from smoking during flights. The directives have been issued by Director Flight Standards Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
According to the notification, the captain and first officer will be suspended immediately if they found smoking in the cockpit while operating flights.
The notification further informed that the aviation authority has taken the step after receiving complaints about smoking in the cockpit by pilots and first officers. “Disciplinary action will be taken against pilots found smoking in the cockpit,” it added.
“The cabin crew and ground staff can also lodge complaints against pilots smoking while operating flights,” the notification added.
Pakistani pilots are in hot waters since the government has launched an inquiry against dubious licenses. Earlier in this month, the Aviation Authority suspended licences of 34 suspected pilots.
A notification had been released by the CAA’s Director Flight Operation regarding the suspension of 34 pilot’s licences including women aviates of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
