Show your patriotism

Today, the entire nation is celebrating the 74th Independence Day of Pakistan with traditional enthusiasm. This is not just a day of shouting slogans for the independence of Pakistan, but it reminds us of how great blessing freedom is to the world. It has been 74 years since the independence of Pakistan and the Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, and other communities are living with freedom.

The purpose of celebrating Independence Day is to reaffirm our commitment that we will protect the Holy Land of Pakistan in every possible way with our body, mind, and soul because nations that do not value freedom will never be remembered in history. The freedom we achieved was not a piece of cake, but our forefathers made innumerable sacrifices to get the blessing of this freedom. We should honour the sacrifices of those who fought and died to make this nation great.

From our athletes to our breath-taking tourist destination sites to our rich cultural histories, there is no doubt that Pakistan is a great country that should move us to work together and make it better. One way of doing this is through being patriotic – loving our country in the way only people who understand that they have no other home can and should.

Patriotism is the feeling of love, respect, and pride for one’s country. It is to unconditionally support and respect the nation. Patriotism lies in our actions. It is the zeal with which we work towards the betterment of the nation. It is the pride that we feel in representing our nation. It is the emotional attachment for the land where we are born and raised.

Patriotism brings people together. When we feel patriotic about our country, we are better placed to stand and rise against the differences that dent our country.

It is a shared feeling and common goal to do what’s best for the nation. Beyond the flag-waving, many of us should show our patriotism in many heartfelt ways.

Here are some suggestions: Honour and respect the Pakistan’s flag. Every year Pakistanis observe this day with enthusiasm, but after the celebrations no one seems to care for the flags. They are then found lying on the ground. The green colour represents Islam and the Muslim majority in Pakistan and the white stripe represents the minorities. In the centre, the crescent and star symbolises progress and light respectively.

Support a Pakistan’s veteran. Do more than just thanking them for their services. Unfortunately, there are numerous veteran people in every aspect of lives in Pakistan, who are struggling to get their basic needs. Plant tress and make the country green. Pakistan is embarking on an ambitious plan: to plant 10 billion trees across the country by 2023, in order to restore landscapes while providing much-needed employment.

Embracing patriotism will show much-needed support for our country and help to create a stronger, more unified nation. Be grateful for our homeland and try to make it a better place every day, in whatever big or small way possible.

Today we need to pledge that we will not spare any sacrifice for the protection of Pakistan and will play our full role in the prosperity and development of the beloved homeland.
