LAHORE: Pakistani singer and composer Arooj Aftab has made it to the former US president Barack Obama’s summer playlist. Some other singers who made it the list included Rihanna, Jay-Z, Bob Dylan and Rolling Stones.
The former Republican leader shared his summer playlist which featured Arooj’s song “Mohabbat”. “With so many folks getting together with family and friends, there’s a lot to celebrate this summer,” he wrote.

The Pakistani singer took to Instagram and expressed gratitude. “Well this has been wonderful to wake up to!” adding, “Thank you, Barack Obama.” Mira Sethi, Riz Ahmed, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and others congratulated Arooj on the achievement.

In 2019, Indian artist Prateek Kuhad managed to end his year on a high with a mention by the former president in the same list. The indie musician’s cold/mess has made it to former US president Barack Obama’s “Best of 2019” playlist.
Who is Arooj Aftab?
The 36-year-old Brooklyn-based singer brings the words of poets such as Rumi and Mirza Ghalib together with electronic samples and jazz. Aftab was born in Saudi Arabia and grew up in Pakistan.
She graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston and then moved to New York. Earlier this year, she released an album called Vulture Prince which has been gaining popularity ever since it first came out.
Aftab was awarded by the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences for her additional vocals in Antes Que El Mundo Se Acabe (Residente) which won the best rap song category.
