KARACHI: Sindh energy minister Imtiaz Shaikh has asserted that almost 12 wind power projects of 600 megawatts will become fully operational and functional by this year’s December.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi today (Friday), Imtiaz Shaikh has informed that the development was in progress for 12 power projects across the wind-corridors of Jhimpir and Jamshoro. “The eco-friendly projects will be furnished by December 2020,” he added.
“Each project will have the capacity to produce 50 megawatts of eco-friendly and cheap energy from the natural wind corridors, consuming no fuel whatsoever,” he remarked.
The provincial energy minister informed that Sindh has the potential to resolve the energy crisis of Pakistan. “In pursuance of the vision of Bilawal Bhutto and Chief Minister Sindh, speedy work on all the development projects is underway,” he claimed.
He further informed that the power projects fueled by the coal in Thar were successfully materialized in the leadership of CM Sindh.
Earlier on September 3, Federal Energy Minister Omar Ayub Khan expressed hope that K-Electric (KE), will establish its own 500 KV grid by 2021, which will improve the electricity system in the metropolis.
“The sole electricity provider in Karachi had not fulfilled its promised investment, however, the power system will be improved from next year,” he remarked.
Earlier this year, European Union (EU) Ambassador to Pakistan Androulla Kaminara met with the CM Sindh and expressed the bloc’s desire for improving cooperation with the province in the renewable energy sector.
