RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has approved the Project Concept (PC-I) for the construction of the 51-kilometer-long Rawalpindi Ring Road Project.
According to details, the provincial executive approved the PC-1 for the route connecting Radio Pakistan Building on GT Road with the CPEC Route of the project under phase 1 at a cost of PKR 1,300 million. Final approval has been given for the purchase of land for the construction of the road.
The provincial government would provide funds for land acquisition, build-up property, and transfer of services. The concerned authorities would complete the project on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
The Project Management Unit (PMU), established for the construction, would work under the supervision of Project Director and Rawalpindi Commissioner Captain (retired) Muhammad Mahmood.
Sources revealed that the project would collectively feature nine interchanges as well as separate tracks from small and heavy vehicles.
In this regard, Chairman RDA Tariq Mahmood Murtaza has said that the land for the project will now be finalized after the release of funds. This project will help alleviate congestion in the central area of Rawalpindi and it will make space and reduce travel time within the twin cities.
The work on this project slowed under the PML-N government but now has been accelerated on the directive of Punjab Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar.
