KARACHI: Officials of the Provincial government’s revenue department are allegedly blackmailing the citizens of various parts of Gadap Town and Malir district for bribes.
According to details, the officials usually raid the under-construction houses in the said areas and asked the owners to show documents for verification. In this regard, the officials demand a huge amount of bribe and threatened to demolish their structures.
One of the residents informed that when he started constructing his house, the police arrived and demanded a bribe. Gadap’s social leader, Allah Dad, with evidence, said that the district police are also involved in receiving bribe from the citizens.
He further informed that the officials also demand bribes from the citizens for the verification of their inherited land deeds. He also said that the citizens have filed various applications against the officials but no action has been taken yet.
Gadap’s social leader appealed to DC Malir and SSP Malir to take notice in this regard. “Otherwise the locals will be forced to stage a protest against the corruption,” he added.
