KARACHI: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has auctioned 11 acres of Old Sabzi Mandi land, worth billions of rupees, for only Rs 560 million. Approval from the city council was also sought after the auction.
According to details, opposition parties have criticized the development and have demanded to immediately cancel the ‘corrupt auction’. The opposition has also demanded to include them in the auction committee.
In this regard, the city council meeting was held on Thursday (July 16). However, the original agenda of the meeting was changed and the supplementary agenda was handed over to the council members. Approval of the auction of the said land was part of the agenda on which the council members protested.
During the opposition protest, the city council approved the auction of the land due to the majority in the council. The opposition claimed that the corruption of the concerned officers including Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Saif-ur-Rehman was clear in the auction of the said land.
Junaid Makati, parliamentary leader of Jamaat-e-Islami in the city council, has said that Jamaat-e-Islami strongly condemned the disposal of valuable lands of the old Sabzi Mandi.
