LAHORE: A minor girl died allegedly after her throat was slit by a glass-laced string of a kite in Lahore on Sunday.
According to sources, a six-year-old girl, Hareem Fatima lost her life after a kite string slit her throat on Lahore’s Bandar Road. Sources further said the girl was returning home from Model Town with her parents on a motorcycle when a kite string slit her throat.
Sources added the incident took place around 11:00 pm. Following the incident, the deputy inspector-general of the Lahore police (operations) suspended the Sandha SHO and ordered a detailed investigation into the case.
Meanwhile, the police are trying to find out whether the string belonged to a kite or was a hanging wire, sources from the police added.
Earlier, a teenage boy was killed after a kite string slit his throat in Lahore’s Islampura area. The victim, identified as Usman, was a resident of Narowal and worked in a factory at Bund Road.
The victim was on a motorcycle with his younger brother when the incident occurred. On May 3, Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar had ordered a crackdown against the kite flying across Punjab.
The chief minister issued a notice in which he ordered the provincial IGP and to launch a crackdown against the accusers involved in violating the government orders.
It is worth mentioning here, the Supreme Court of Pakistan had imposed a ban on the manufacture, trade or even flying of kites.
