KARACHI: Employees from a textile factory in Malir protesting against the non-payment of their salaries today (Monday) were met with a baton-charge and aerial firing from the police.
According to the protestors, several protesting employees were injured during the baton- charge. Protestors informed that they were protesting peacefully, however, the mill administration allegedly paid bribes to the police for dispersing us.
The protesting employee claimed that the factory administration had not paid their dues and was repeatedly delaying. “Many of our fellow workers were fired for no reason,” he added.
The protestors claimed that despite the promulgation of the Coronavirus Emergency Relief Ordinance and the Sindh government’s notifications against the non-payment of wages and forced dismissals, no change has occurred.
In this regard, SP Malir Tahir Noorani has informed that protest was staged against dismissal and non-payment of salaries. “However, protesters hurled stones at police in which one policeman was injured,” he added.
The protestors have appealed to Governor Sindh Imran Ismail, Chief Minister Sindh, and Secretary Labor to take immediate action against the Qasim Textile and Shah Latif Police Station.
