KARACHI: In a full day operation against the illegal water connections today (Friday), the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) has destroyed multiple pipelines that were illegally providing water to the residents of Karachi.
According to details, under the supervision of Chief Engineer Bulk Zafar Palijo, the Water Board’s Disconnection Squad conducted a grand operation against water thieves near Keenjhar Lake and disconnected 8 illegal water connections of different diameters.
MD Water Board Asadullah Khan has congratulated the teams on the successful operation. Sources have informed that water was being supplied to fish farms from these illegal connections.
Meanwhile, the second team of Bulk Water Division has taken action against illegal connections near Ghaghar Phatak and disconnected one 16 inch diameter and four 2.2 diameter connections.
In addition, an illegal connection from a 48-inch diameter water line near Baldia Town Northern Bypass was also disconnected. The Water Board has registered cases against the water thieves in the concerned police stations.
The water shortage in Karachi has started deepening as warm weather arrives in the megacity of Pakistan. Citizens in many areas have been compelled to drink contaminated water. These areas include Lyari, Baldia, Orangi, Keamari, Shershah, and parts of Gulistan-e-Johar.
