The number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Pakistan has jumped t0 19,000 while lockdown is still in place across the country owing to which the masses are suffering severely. Amid this distress, the Sindh government and the Centre are currently engaged in the politics of accusations.
The Sindh government has asserted that the PTI-led federal government has not been providing aid to the province in these testing times. Simultaneously, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto has asked for fair distribution of benefits from the relief received from various financial institutions, including the IMF, the World Bank and the G20 countries. Meanwhile, the federal government said that necessary supplies and assistance were being provided to Sindh for coping coronavirus pandemic.
Pakistan’s already troubled economy has been completely overwhelmed by the coronavirus pandemic. Thousands of workers have lost their jobs due to the closure of industries. In this regard, the federal government announced the second phase of the Ehsaas Emergency Cash Programme for the unemployed.
The novel coronavirus has caused heavy casualties as well as financial losses to Pakistan. As a developing country, Pakistan does not have many resources to help all the deserving people. Despite this, all provincial governments and the Centre are helping the much-needed people in terms of rations and medical treatment.
Natural disasters are nothing new in Pakistan. The whole nation has fought together against terrorism, earthquakes, floods and other issues. However, it is unfortunate at this time that the ruling and other political parties of the country are engaged in the politics of accusations by stirring up differences instead of preventing the coronavirus pandemic and rehabilitating the people.
The need of the hour is that the federal government and all the provinces should put aside political differences and work together for the betterment of the nation. Because, in this ongoing difficult situation, it is difficult to say how long the coronavirus epidemic will continue. In such time of distress, the confrontation of the political leadership can lead to chaos in the nation.
