RAWALPINDI: National Highways Motorway police officer sacrificed his own life while saving the lives of three people trapped in two trucks which had collided on Pindi Bhattian’s M-2 Motorway.
According to sources, a fast-moving dumper truck collided with a mini truck on Pindi Bhattian. As a result, three people suffered severe injuries and trapped inside the trucks.
During the rescue operation, a speeding bus hit and injured a traffic police officer, Noor Muhammad, who was helping the rescue teams. A rescue official said the bus was coming at a very high speed and crashed into the traffic police officer left him injured.
The injured were shifted to Pindi Bhattian Hospital for treatment, where the traffic police officer succumbed to his injuries. The bus driver fled the scene after the accident; however, the police started search operation for his arrest.
Deputy Inspector General of Motorway Police Ashfaq Ahmed has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the demise of Noor Muhammad and ordered the arrest of the bus driver involved in the accident.
Separately, a man died in a collision between a tractor and a vehicle on National Highway near the Shahoo Garahi area of Washuk district.
The source said both the vehicles collided with each other due to over-speeding, leaving one person dead.
Rescue sources reached the spot and shift the body to a nearby hospital where it was identified as Muhammad Khan resident of Panjgur.
