The first transshipment cargo vessel of May has docked at Gwadar Port, as commercial activity at the port continues to grow.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the vessel, MV Sho Long, is carrying 16,077 metric tonnes of cargo. He added that the ship was redirected towards Gwadar due to the prevailing regional situation.
He stated that berthing and cargo handling operations are progressing swiftly, while Gwadar is increasingly emerging as an important alternative trade route.
According to the minister, four transshipment vessels arrived at Gwadar Port during April.
He further noted that the regional maritime situation has enhanced Gwadar’s strategic significance, adding that the port is becoming a reliable hub for global trade.
Junaid Chaudhry described the development as a “quantum leap”, attributing it to recent reforms in the maritime sector aimed at improving efficiency, trade competitiveness, and business opportunities.
Pakistani ports are now fully equipped to manage all types of transshipment and transit trade cargo, including break bulk operations, for regional destinations, he added.
Federal Minister added that the move could help position Pakistan as a key maritime hub in the region, linking international trade routes and expanding business opportunities.
