CHARSADDA: Hours after the assassination of Sheikh al-Hadith Maulana Muhammad Idris Tarangzai, investigators are appeared to have reached consensus on key details about the attack and the ongoing manhunt for the perpetrators.

According to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police sources, the incident occurred at approximately 08:10 AM in the jurisdiction of Utmānzai Police Station, Charsadda when four unidentified terrorists riding on two motorcycles carried out the attack, opening indiscriminate fire on the vehicle of the renowned religious scholar and eminent theologian.
Maulana Idris and two police constables assigned to his security were rushed to the hospital immediately after the shooting. However, Maulana Muhammad Idris succumbed to his injuries en route and was declared “martyred.” The two injured constables remain under medical care.
Initial evidence indicates the incident was a targeted killing, police said. Joint teams from the Counter Terrorism Department and Charsadda District Police have been formed to investigate.
Investigators have obtained images of the attackers using on-site Safe City cameras. The footage is now being analyzed to identify the assailants. A pursuit of the terrorists is underway, with checkpoints established across the district.
