Senator Maulana Ata-ur-Rehman, senior JUI-F leader, condemned the assassination, stating, “This situation is intolerable. Workers will take to the streets tomorrow to protest against lawlessness.” The party has called on its supporters across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to observe a full shutdown and join demonstrations demanding justice.

Earlier today, unidentified gunmen ambushed Sheikh Idrees Tarangzai’s vehicle in the Utmanzai area of Charsadda. The Deobandi scholar, a close aide of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, was killed on the spot, or succumbed to his injuries en route to hospital. Two police constables assigned to his security detail were critically injured. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Demonstrators have blocked Farooq-e-Azam Chowk, a key intersection in Charsadda, where tensions remain high. Madrassa students have joined the protests in large numbers, demanding justice and action against growing lawlessness.
In response to the unrest, markets across Charsadda have shut down. Commercial activity in the district came to a standstill by afternoon as shopkeepers closed in solidarity and to avoid potential escalation.
Funeral and Tomorrow’s Strike
The funeral prayer for Sheikh al-Hadith Maulana Idrees Tarangzai is scheduled for today at approximately 5:30 PM in Tarangzai.
With JUI-F’s announcement, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is expected to see widespread demonstrations and a complete strike on Tuesday, May 6. Party workers and religious seminaries are mobilizing across the province, with major rallies anticipated in Peshawar, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, and other districts.
Security has been tightened across Charsadda and surrounding areas ahead of the funeral and tomorrow’s planned protests. Officials have yet to comment on arrests or leads in the assassination case.
