SHIKARPUR: Station House Officer Ali Hassan Jatoi of Ghulam Shah police station, in Sindh’s Shikarpur Lakhi Ghulam Ali Shah area, was critically injured in a firing incident in the Lakhi Ghulam Shah area of Shikarpur district and later died of his injuries, police officials confirmed.
According to police, personnel from Lakhi Ghulam Shah police station signaled a private car to stop during routine checking. When the vehicle did not comply, police opened fire. SHO Ali Hassan Jatoi sustained serious injuries in the incident. He was rushed to Ziauddin Hospital, Sukkur, in critical condition but could not survive.
Local reports present varying accounts. Some describe the event as a police encounter where suspects were engaged, with one suspect killed and others fleeing. Other posts state the SHO was traveling in a private vehicle when police opened fire near “Laki Ghulam Shah 2”.
Police officials said an inquiry committee has been formed under the leadership of ASP Shikarpur to investigate the incident. The committee has been directed to submit its report within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, IG Sindh Javed Alam Odho took strict notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from DIG Larkana. He directed that a committee comprising senior and experienced officers be formed to ensure a transparent and comprehensive investigation into every aspect of the incident. The IG further instructed that those responsible be identified and brought to justice.
SHO Ali Hassan Jatoi was posted at Ghulam Shah police station. Following the incident, SSP Shikarpur Muhammad Asif visited the hospital and supervised initial proceedings.
