Hyderabad Kingsmen fast bowler Mohammad Ali has been fined 10 per cent of his match fee for a breach of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) Code of Conduct during the high-stakes Eliminator 2 clash against Islamabad United.
The sanction follows an on-field altercation during the 16th over of Islamabad United’s innings, which saw a heated exchange of words between Ali and United batter Mark Chapman.
The confrontation, it may be recalled, occurred after a sharp length delivery from Ali managed to beat the New Zealand international. Following the delivery, the two players engaged in a verbal spat, adding to the intense atmosphere of the knockout fixture.
Match officials cited Ali for a Level 1 breach of the HBL PSL Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, specifically Article 2.21, which covers “conduct that brings the game into disrepute.”
Mohammad Ali accepted the charge and the proposed fine, eliminating the need for a formal hearing. This penalty aligns with the standard disciplinary measures seen in the PSL for minor offenses, such as aggressive send-offs or temper flare-ups.
Despite the off-field disciplinary action, it was a productive outing for the pacer. Ali was instrumental in the Hyderabad Kingsmen’s bowling attack, claiming key wickets during the middle overs of the innings, even while being tested by the Islamabad United batters during the final death overs.
The Hyderabad Kingsmen ultimately secured a thrilling victory in the match, successfully navigating the pressure of Eliminator 2 to confirm their place in the PSL 11 final.
