ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has suspended its ongoing operations against encroachments across Islamabad after Prime Minister’s orders to halt proceedings at One Constitution Avenue triggered a wider freeze, senior journalist Kashif Abbasi revealed in a Vlog.

Officials confirmed that the Prime Minister’s directive—issued yesterday—stopped not only the controversial One Constitution Avenue action but also the broader campaign to reclaim government lands, including operations that had recently uprooted poor and unarmed Bari Imam residents after decades of residence.
The Ministry of Interior had earlier decided that the drive would proceed “without discrimination between rich and poor,” targeting both elite developments and informal settlements. However, the Prime Minister’s intervention has created a rift within the government, as the suspension effectively shields affluent projects while leaving marginalized communities already displaced.
According to Abbasi, the halt means that no further operations will take place in the capital until the One Constitution Avenue matter is resolved. This has raised questions about selective enforcement, with critics pointing to the stark contrast between the treatment of Bari Imam’s long-standing residents and the deferential handling of high-profile properties.
The freeze underscores the political sensitivity surrounding land reclamation in Islamabad, where the government now faces pressure to reconcile its stated policy of equal treatment with the realities of power and influence.
