KARACHI: Another case of monkeypox (mpox) has been reported in Karachi, raising the city’s total infections to 9 during the current outbreak.
A 39‑year‑old man from Pathan Colony is reported to have been tested positive at the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital and Research Centre (SIDH&RC), NIPA, and is receiving full treatment and isolation under medical supervision.
Hospital authorities confirmed that all necessary medical facilities are being provided to the patient and that he is being closely monitored. The case is being treated as part of local transmission, underscoring that the virus is now spreading within the community rather than only through international travel‑linked infections.
Across Sindh, it may be added here, provincial health officials have reported 25 confirmed mpox cases and 9 mpox‑related deaths so far in 2026, with the majority in Khairpur and Sukkur, followed by Karachi.
The Sindh Health Department has urged the public to avoid close skin‑to‑skin contact, maintain strict hand hygiene, and immediately seek medical help if they develop fever along with a rash or blister‑like lesions.
