In a bid to offset the impact of recent school closures due to various reasons, the Punjab government is considering reducing summer school holidays to make up for lost time.
Punjab’s Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has said that a final decision regarding summer vacations in educational institutions will be made after May 15.
He said that the provincial government is considering reducing summer holidays by 15 to 20 days this year to make up for academic losses.
According to the minister, the government aims to increase the number of teaching days in the academic year from 180 to 190 to ensure timely completion of the syllabus.
He added that not only summer vacations, but a reduction of 5 to 6 days in winter holidays is also under consideration.
Earlier, the Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority had announced three weekly holidays for all private educational institutions in Islamabad.
Under the new schedule issued by PEIRA, private schools and colleges in Islamabad will hold academic activities from Monday to Thursday.
