KARACHI: Pakistan recorded 14,182 new HIV cases in 2025, with monthly averages exceeding 1,100 patients, according to figures released by the Ministry of Health.
The data shows an average of 1,182 new cases per month last year. March saw the lowest monthly tally at 1,016 cases, while July recorded the highest with 1,443. Officials noted that the second half of the year saw a relatively higher rate of infections.
Of the total new cases, 8,386 were men — 59 per cent of the tally. Women accounted for 3,314 cases, or 23pc, while 1,748 children made up 12pc. Another 734 cases, 5pc, were reported among transgender persons.
Provincial tally
Punjab reported the highest number of new infections at 7,920 cases. Sindh followed with 3,859 cases, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded 1,383.
Islamabad reported 498 cases and Balochistan 472. Azad Kashmir logged 43 cases, while Gilgit-Baltistan reported seven.

Rising trend
Sources said around 13,000 cases were recorded in 2024. By December 2025, the total number of registered HIV cases in the country had reached 84,421.
According to the AIDS Control Programme, 60,785 people are currently receiving treatment. Health experts have expressed concern over the upward trend and called for more effective interventions to curb transmission.
