KARACHI: Police have invoked terrorism provisions in the case pertaining to the shooting of a Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) inspector, allegedly carried out by the son of a former superintendent of police (SP), as investigators widened the scope of the probe and arrested three suspected facilitators.
According to officials, the fresh charges were added after investigators concluded that the accused, identified as Agha Shaheer, used firearms in a “brutal manner” in a public place following a minor dispute, opening fire on a citizen and causing injuries. The nature of the act, police said, warranted the inclusion of terrorism sections.
During raids aimed at apprehending the suspect, police arrested a man identified as Mazhar Ali in Karachi. He is accused of assisting Agha Shaheer in fleeing the city and facilitating his movement to Shikarpur.
In a related development, two more suspects — Agha Tahir Khan and Agha Mosaddiq Khan — were taken into custody from Shikarpur. Investigators allege that the pair helped conceal the accused’s vehicle at their camp following the incident.
Police officials said the two detainees were being shifted to Karachi for further legal proceedings, while efforts to arrest the main suspect were ongoing.
The case has drawn attention due to the involvement of a senior police officer’s family member, with authorities under pressure to ensure transparency and swift action.
