Karoline Leavitt, the White House Press Secretary and a close aide to US President Donald Trump, has announced she is expecting her second child and will soon go on maternity leave, stepping back from media briefings for a period.
According to details, Leavitt shared the news in a video statement that has since gone viral on social media.
She revealed that she will be taking time off and will not be regularly facing journalists, though it has not yet been announced who will take over her duties during her absence.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Leavitt said this could be her final briefing for some time, adding: “As you can see, I could give birth at any moment.”
She also joked that her absence would not greatly affect the media, as they already have the President’s phone number.
It is worth noting that President Trump often prefers to address the media directly, even in the presence of his press secretary and State Department officials. As such, Leavitt’s absence is unlikely to significantly impact his media engagement. Her remark about the President’s phone number has attracted widespread attention online.
So far, the White House has not clarified the duration of her leave. However, senior officials, including J. D. Vance, are expected to ensure continuity in communications.
At 28, Karoline Leavitt is considered one of the youngest individuals to hold the position of White House Press Secretary. She is already the mother of a son, born in July 2024.
