At least nine employees at a copper and gold project in Balochistan’s Chagai district were killed in an armed attack by unidentified assailants on Wednesday evening, according to local officials.
The site is operated by National Resources Limited (NRL), a Pakistani mining company involved in mineral exploration in the region.
In an official statement, NRL confirmed that an attack had taken place but did not disclose any casualties.
The company said security forces, including the Frontier Corps, responded swiftly, secured the area, and initiated a clearance operation.
However, local administration officials was quoted as saying in Dawn that at least nine employees, including two security guards, lost their lives in the incident. Police authorities also confirmed the fatalities, and the bodies were transported to Prince Fahad Hospital in Dalbandin.
NRL reiterated its commitment to supporting local communities in Balochistan, noting that more than 90 percent of its workforce at the Darigwan site is locally sourced.
The company added that it is coordinating closely with authorities and emphasised that ensuring the safety of its employees and operations remains its top priority.
