KARACHI: Dark clouds loomed over the city Monday morning as light drizzle fell in scattered areas around 9 a.m., signaling the arrival of yet another weather front.
As per weather foreceast, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) says thundershowers likely to hit across northern parts of Karachi today, with skies expected to remain partly cloudy over the next 24 hours.
A new westerly wind system, entering Balochistan via Iran on April 5, is set to bring rain to Sindh on Monday and Tuesday.
While Karachi’s rainfall is expected to be lighter than Thursday’s historic deluge — which dumped 38.7 mm of rain, breaking a 41-year-old April record — authorities warn residents to remain vigilant. The earlier downpour had flooded key commercial hubs, causing an estimated Rs 4–5 billion in losses and claiming multiple lives.
Temperatures in the port city are projected to hover between 23.3°C (minimum) and 29–31°C (maximum). Meanwhile, Balochistan faces more severe conditions: strong winds, thunderstorms, and hail are likely across northern, central, and southern districts. The PMD has issued a flood alert for mountainous areas in northeastern Balochistan, urging local residents and landowners to take precautionary measures.
> “The system is dynamic. While Karachi may see moderate showers, the real threat lies in Balochistan’s highlands, where flash floods could occur with little warning,” said a PMD official.
