LAHORE: In yet another shocking display of administrative negligence, a uniformed security guard was filmed drawing blood from patients inside the blood bank of the Gynae Emergency at Lahore’s government‑run Ganga Ram Hospital.
Videos circulating on social media show the guard tying a wire around patients’ arms before inserting needles and collecting blood samples — a task reserved for trained medical staff. According to eyewitnesses, the guard even attached blood bags in some cases, performing sensitive procedures without any medical training.
Hospital insiders revealed that the incident occurred in the absence of doctors, nurses, and technical staff, leaving desperate patients at the mercy of unqualified personnel. Witnesses said basic supplies such as bandages were unavailable, while a severe shortage of blood bags forced pregnant women to wait hours for transfusions required during C‑sections.
The fallout was immediate, as multiple surgeries were delayed, and panic spread through the hospital administration and Punjab’s health department once the videos surfaced.
“This is criminal negligence,” said one source within the hospital. “Lives were put at risk because the system failed to provide even the most essential staff and equipment.”
The incident once again highlighted chronic staffing and supply shortages in public hospitals, raising urgent questions about oversight and accountability in Punjab’s healthcare system.
