Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the nation on Friday, announcing that the government will not increase petroleum prices this week despite rising international oil rates.
He said the government is working to cushion the impact of skyrocketing fuel prices while actively pursuing diplomatic efforts to restore peace in the Middle East.
The Prime Minister revealed that he had rejected proposals to raise petrol by Rs95 per liter and diesel by Rs203 per liter, with the federal government instead deciding to absorb an additional burden of Rs56 billion this week.
He stressed Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to prevent regional escalation and highlighted his discussions with leaders of Iran and Gulf countries, describing Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach as not only a national responsibility but also a religious duty.
Meanwhile, the federal and provincial governments agreed to immediately implement a mobile app-based quota system for two- and three-wheelers, aimed at providing a targeted fuel subsidy for low-income citizens and preventing misuse of public funds.
The Ministry of Finance said the move ensures coordinated technological solutions for an efficient subsidy framework.
