The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad and its Consulates General in Lahore, Karachi, and Peshawar have issued a public advisory warning U.S. citizens of planned protests across Pakistan. The alert, valid through March 15, comes amid reports of large gatherings expected in multiple cities.
According to the embassy, the movements of U.S. personnel are currently restricted, and citizens may encounter heavy traffic, road closures, and detours due to rallies and processions. Authorities have also warned of an increased security presence, additional checkpoints, and potential disruptions to local mobile and internet networks.
The embassy emphasized that the scale, duration, and intensity of these protests are unpredictable. Even peaceful demonstrations could potentially turn violent.

The embassy also urged Americans to ensure their registration with the U.S. Department of State’s STEP program is up to date and to stay informed through local news sources.
On Thursday, the United States announced that it would permanently close its consulate in Peshawar.
The US State Department notified Congress of its intent to close the consulate, saying that it would save $7.5 million per year without undermining the advancement of US national interests in Pakistan.
