GWADAR: A young fisherman from Gwadar lost his life after being struck by debris from a drone in Iranian waters, family members and local officials confirmed the other day.
The deceased was identified as Tayyab, a resident of Gunz, a coastal area near Gwadar.
The tragedy comes amid escalating regional tensions in the entire region of the Middle East.
On February 28, US and Israeli forces launched a military operation in Iran, assassinating Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei along with senior military officials. The conflict has since spilled over into neighboring Arab states hosting US bases, intensifying instability across the region.
According to relatives, he was fishing in Iranian territorial waters when wreckage from a drone — reportedly shot down during ongoing hostilities — fell on his boat, killing him instantly.
Family members said Tayyab’s body was transferred from Iran to Pakistan and brought to Gunz, where relatives were left in shock.
Chairman Municipal Committee Jeoni, Akram Hayat, confirmed the incident, stating that the fisherman had gone to Iran for employment and lost his life after being hit by drone debris.
Local authorities added that the Deputy Commissioner and District Police Officer (DPO) Gwadar had been contacted regarding the matter. “The administration is gathering more information, and further details will be shared once available,” officials said.
