An 18-year-old British-Pakistani teenager, Zeshan Afzal, has tragically lost his life in a stabbing incident outside the Oldbury Jamia Mosque in Smethwick. The attack occurred on Friday night, February 20, during Taraweeh prayers.
West Midlands Police confirmed that Zeshan was found with serious injuries in the mosque’s car park shortly before 9pm. Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Two other young men, aged 19 and 22, were also injured in the attack and were taken to hospital for treatment.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “A teenager who tragically died after being stabbed in Smethwick has been named as Zeshan Afzal. Murder investigations have now been launched, and officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.”
The incident has shocked the local community, coming at a time when worshippers were attending prayers during the holy month of Ramadan. Police have urged anyone who witnessed the attack or has relevant information to contact authorities immediately.
