US President Donald Trump has issued Iran with a clear deadline of 10 to 15 days to reach an agreement.
According to international media reports, Mr Trump warned that if Tehran fails to enter negotiations within the specified period, the United States could launch a major military strike.
Following the announcement, US Air Force units stationed in Europe reportedly began repositioning towards Iran. Increased activity has been observed at a US airbase on a Portuguese island, where fighter jets and supporting air assets have assumed positions in preparation for potential operations.
Meanwhile, leading American newspaper The New York Times cautioned that any US attack on Iran could produce unpredictable consequences and risk pushing the entire Middle East into a new conflict.
A day earlier, British news agency Reuters reported that the US President was considering directly targeting Iran’s senior leadership. Other reports have suggested the possibility of limited strikes.
Those reports further indicated that Washington’s objective may extend beyond military action, potentially aiming to increase pressure on the Iranian government in pursuit of regime change.
There has been no official response from Tehran so far. However, Iranian officials have previously made clear that any attack would be met with a firm and decisive response.
