Lionsgate has unveiled a first-look behind-the-scenes video for the highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic Michael, set for a global theatrical and IMAX release on April 24, 2026.
The featurette offers a glimpse into the preparation of lead actor Jaafar Jackson, the late pop legend’s real-life nephew and son of Jermaine Jackson, as he transforms into the King of Pop.
The footage shows intensive rehearsal sessions where Jaafar perfects iconic moves, including the legendary moonwalk and sequences inspired by the “Thriller” music video.
Jaafar described portraying his uncle as a “calling,” stressing authenticity as the key to earning the role. Director Antoine Fuqua also praised the performance, saying Michael Jackson’s spirit can be felt in Jaafar’s portrayal.

Directed by Fuqua and produced by Bohemian Rhapsody producer Graham King, the film aims to present a “humanized but not sanitized” depiction of Jackson’s life, covering his Jackson 5 beginnings to global superstardom.
The cast includes Colman Domingo, Nia Long, Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, Kat Graham and Larenz Tate.
The film reportedly features more than 30 songs and has been trimmed to a 2.5-hour runtime after earlier delays caused by post-production, reshoots and the SAG-AFTRA strike.
