Attaullah Tarar, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, on Thursday confirmed that former PM and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) for eye procedure.
Issuing a clarification on Thursday, Tarar said that eye specialists had examined the PTI founder at Adiala Jail, after which a medical check-up was conducted at PIMS Hospital on Saturday night.
According to Attaullah Tarar, eye specialists carried out Imran Khan’s examination at PIMS Hospital, and after a 20-minute check-up, he was transferred back to Adiala Jail.
Tarar said that the PTI founder is completely fine and that all prisoners are provided with healthcare facilities. He added that whenever doctors refer any inmate, the government ensures that the person is taken to a hospital.
It is noteworthy that PTI had claimed on Tuesday that Imran Khan was suffering from a highly sensitive eye infection which, if not treated in a timely and proper manner, could result in permanent damage to his eyesight.
According to the party, the former prime minister has developed Central Retinal Vein Occlusion in his right eye, posing a serious threat to his vision.
PTI had criticized the government and jail authorities, alleging that the prison administration was insisting on conducting treatment inside the jail, whereas doctors had said that such treatment was not possible within prison premises.
The party had also appealed to the court to allow Imran Khan’s medical examination; however, this request has been pending since August 2025.
Aleema Khan said she had not been able to meet her brother for the past three months and did not understand how the news reached the media.
Uzma Khan said she had met Imran Khan on December 2, during which he did not mention any issue related to his eyes.
Noreen Khan also said that even if the report were true, it should have been shared with the family.
