Record-breaking snowfall has paralyzed the daily life in Naran and Kaghan as freezing weather gripped Pakistan particularly the northern parts of the country.
Heavy snowfall has blanketed Naran and surrounding areas, with snow accumulation reaching up to seven feet, while Shogran, Kaghan, and nearby upper valleys have received nearly five feet.
Due to the risk of landslides and road accidents, authorities have closed the Kaghan Road beyond Mahandri for all types of traffic. Roads leading to the tourist destination of Shogran have also been temporarily shut as a precautionary measure.
The Meteorological Department has forecast that rain and snowfall will continue today, as a westerly wave remains active over the upper parts of the country, according to the National Weather Forecasting Centre (NWFC).
Temperatures dropped sharply, with Malam Jabba, Parachinar and Gupis recording -7°C, Bagrote -6°C, Kalam and Rawalakot -5°C, Murree and Skardu -3°C, and Quetta -1°C.
The weather department warned that snowfall could lead to road closures, slippery conditions, landslides and avalanches across several northern regions.
Tourists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, especially as conditions in Abbottabad’s Galiyat region remain critical, where more than three feet of snow fell in the last 16 hours.
