Renowned Indian playback singer Arijit Singh has announced that he will no longer take on new assignments as a film playback vocalist, a decision that has surprised fans and the music industry alike.
In a message shared on social media, Singh thanked listeners for their support over the years and described his career as a “wonderful journey”.
He said he would step away from mainstream playback singing but stressed that he is not quitting music entirely. He plans to honour existing commitments, and songs already recorded may still be released.

Singh also explained that the move is motivated by a desire for personal and creative growth. He expressed an interest in exploring music independently, outside the commercial Bollywood system and learning more as an artist without the pressures of regular film assignments.
In essence, the announcement reflects a shift from high‑profile playback work to a focus on his own artistic development and independent music projects.
