The Board of Peace, an international organization established and chaired by President Donald Trump, officially came into being on January 22, 2026, during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

While it was originally mandated by UN Security Council Resolution 2803 to oversee the reconstruction of Gaza, its charter has since expanded to a broader role in resolving global conflicts.

As of today, roughly 35 countries have accepted invitations or signed the charter, while others have explicitly declined.

Europe & Eurasia Hungary, Turkey (Türkiye), Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Uzbekistan
Asia Pakistan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Mongolia

Notable Status Updates
The United States serves as the lead nation with Donald Trump as the Chairman for Life.

Nations That Have Declined

While many nations have embraced the new organization, a significant bloc of traditional Western allies has officially declined or expressed serious reservations.

Country Primary Reason for Declining / Concern Notable Official Statement
France Conflict with UN principles; potential replacement of the UN. “Yes to the peace plan, but no to an organization that would replace the UN.”
United Kingdom Concerns over a “legal treaty” and the inclusion of Vladimir Putin. “We won’t be signatories… we have concerns about President Putin being part of this.”
Germany Risk of weakening the United Nations and established international laws. The government officially opposed, citing “undermining of established institutions.”
Norway Incompatibility with international law and the UN Charter. Stated the body “runs against international laws” and requires further dialogue.
Sweden Issues with the charter’s current text and legal framework. “Sweden wouldn’t sign up for the board as the text currently stands.”
Slovenia Overly broad mandate that “dangerously interferes” with global order. “The mandate is too broad and could undermine international order.”
Canada Removed from list after refusing the $1 billion membership fee. Originally agreed to join, but Trump withdrew the invite over the “permanent fee” dispute.
Denmark Sovereignty concerns related to the “Greenland deal” discussions. Denied the invitation following tensions over Arctic sovereignty.
Belgium Seeking a coordinated EU response; cited “major reservations.” Clarified that original reports of them joining were “incorrect.”

In response to these declines, President Trump has already threatened economic measures, including a 200% tariff on French wine and champagne for France’s refusal to join.
