Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has confirmed that he has left Karachi to permanently settle in Islamabad.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Jang at his new residence in the capital, Afridi cited personal reasons for the move. During the conversation, he shared his perspective on the country’s current state and its path to development.
Afridi emphasized that the foundation of a strong nation lies in the continuity of its systems.
He stated that consistency in policies, the democratic process, and the completion of constitutional terms by state institutions are vital for progress.
“When state institutions complete their terms, policies remain stable, and the fruits of development reach the common man sooner,” he remarked.
He expressed a deep desire to see Pakistan grow rapidly but reiterated that “continuity” is the most fundamental requirement to achieve that goal.
Will “Boom Boom” Join Politics?
Addressing the long-standing rumors about his political ambitions, Afridi clarified:
“Pakistan and Pakistan Cricket have given me respect, status, and identity across the world. My wish now is to give something back to the sport and the country. However, I am not entering politics at this time.”
He further added that the government should be allowed to complete its five-year constitutional term, and individuals holding key constitutional positions, including the Chief Justice and the Army Chief—should also be allowed to complete their tenures.
Afridi revealed that he has been offered significant government positions in the past but has always declined them. He explained that “ceremonial roles hold no attraction” for him.
