An unusual security incident occurred at the private residence of US Vice President JD Vance, where a man allegedly smashed several windows and damaged property.
Neither Vance nor his family were at home at the time of the incident. The suspect was taken into custody by security personnel shortly after the attack.
According to authorities, the incident took place on the morning of 5 January 2026, when the US Secret Service and state police received reports of disturbance outside the residence. Upon arrival, officers arrested a 26-year-old man identified as William D. Foore, who is accused of using a hammer to break multiple windows and damage a security vehicle parked outside the property.
Officials confirmed that Vice President Vance was in Washington, DC, having already returned following an official engagement. No injuries were reported, although property damage is estimated at approximately $28,000.
Reacting to the incident on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Vance thanked well-wishers and praised the swift response of law enforcement. He stated that, based on available information, an individual attempted to enter the house by smashing windows with a hammer. He also confirmed that his family was not present at the residence at the time.
The Vice President urged the media and public to exercise restraint, particularly with regard to publishing images of the damaged property, saying that such coverage could have a negative impact on his family, especially his children.
The Secret Service and local police have registered a case against the suspect. Charges may include criminal mischief, attempted unlawful entry, and interference with federal security operations.
