Following the tragic incident where a three-year-old child fell into a manhole at NIPA Chowrangi, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab stated that rescue operations are ongoing and that the family will be provided with every possible assistance.
Speaking to the media in Karachi, the mayor acknowledged the father’s complaint about not receiving machinery late at night.

He said the Water Corporation has been ordered to investigate the matter, and strict action will be taken against any officer found guilty of negligence.
The mayor regretted that attempts were made to politicize the issue since the previous night, calling it a great misfortune. He mentioned that he is obtaining CCTV footage to ascertain the facts of the incident.
He confirmed that the search for the missing child is underway, with a 500-meter section already excavated, and that he is in constant contact with all administrative bodies.
Murtaza Wahab stated that the manhole in front of the departmental store was uncovered, and investigations are ongoing to determine how long it had been open or if it was deliberately opened.
He clarified that the manhole the child fell into belongs to a storm drain that runs beside Urdu Science College, and he offered condolences to the affected family.

Sindh govt spokesperson condemns tragedy, slams Jamaat-e-Islami
Sindh Government Spokesperson Sadia Javed called the incident a deeply heartbreaking event.
Responding to the tragedy of the child falling into the drain in Karachi, she said that rescue teams reached the site immediately upon receiving the information.

She criticized the opposition, stating, “We have many things to politicize,” and questioned where the money allocated to the towns is going, as Rs 1.2 million is given to the towns every month. She alleged that Jamaat-e-Islami only knows how to create noise.
Sadia Javed acknowledged that the incident occurred due to administrative negligence and promised that those responsible will be punished.
She also criticized former Mayor Niamatullah Khan, saying he left the city a “concrete jungle.
