A number of high-profile websites, including X and ChatGPT, have gone down for some users due to problems affecting major internet infrastructure firm, Cloudflare, it emerged on Tuesday.
Visitors to websites like X (formerly Twitter), ChatGPT, and the film review platform Letterboxd encountered error messages due to issues with Cloudflare, a major internet infrastructure provider. These problems prevented pages from loading properly.
On its homepage, X displayed a notice about an internal server issue, attributing the disruption to an error originating from Cloudflare. ChatGPT users also saw a message instructing them to “please unblock challenges cloudflare.com to proceed.”
Cloudflare, which provides essential services such as cybersecurity protection and traffic management for websites, acknowledged the issue. In a statement, the company said it was “aware of, and investigating an issue which potentially impacts multiple customers,” and promised further updates as more information becomes available.
Even Down Detector, a site that tracks outages, was affected by the same technical difficulties. When it did load, it showed a sharp surge in reported problems.
Users impacted by the outage were met with a message citing an “internal server error on Cloudflare’s network” and were advised to “please try again in a few minutes.”
