The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) started the week on a positive note on Monday, as the benchmark KSE-100 Index surged nearly 2,000 points amid improved investor sentiment driven by stable macroeconomic indicators.
At the close of trading, the benchmark index settled at 161,538.40 points, up 1,945.50 points or 1.22%.
Strong buying activity was witnessed across key sectors, including automobile assemblers, cement, commercial banks, oil and gas exploration, oil marketing companies, power generation, and refineries. Index-heavy stocks such as ARL, PSO, MARI, OGDC, POL, PPL, HUBCO, HCAR, DGKC, MEBL, and NBP closed in the green.
This positive momentum followed a lackluster performance in the previous week, during which the KSE-100 Index had dropped by 2,038 points (1.3%) to settle at 159,592.91, as persistent geopolitical uncertainty and weak economic indicators dampened investor confidence.
Meanwhile, the Pakistani rupee extended its upward trajectory against the US dollar, appreciating 0.07% in early inter-bank trading on Monday.
At 10 a.m., the local currency was trading around Rs280.62 per dollar, gaining Rs0.20 from the previous close.
